The 4Cs: Your guidelines when selecting a stone.
-
Cut
Optimal facet angles yield the greatest light performance. That's sparkle and scintillation and it's our highest priority.
-
Color
From pure colorless to stones with a touch of warmth... our stones are graded from D-K with most falling in the F-G category.
-
Clarity
Clarity describes the internal transparency of a diamond. During the growth of any diamond, tiny particles become embedded in the carbon and their visibility to the naked eye impacts price.
-
Carat
This is the physical weight of the stone measured by a finely calibrated diamond scale. We strive for diamonds that look bigger than their weight.
Let the fun begin.
Start with the shape you love and then dial in the details: a narrow range of carat weights and clarity. Next color... D graded diamonds are white and bright. If you prefer some warmth to your stone, choose J-K. The large majority of diamonds on the market fall in the F-G zone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are lab grown diamonds really a diamond?
The short answer: yes.
The chemical composition and crystal structure of lab-grown diamonds is identical to their natural counterparts. They can only be identified as a lab-grown diamond by state of the art machines that measure their unique fluorescence. Lab-grown diamonds are derived from a natural diamond seed which is then exposed to heat and pressure simulating the geologic conditions that creates natural diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds are significantly less expensive than natural stones and Katura 1999 relishes the design options now readily available to their clients through larger and fancy colored diamonds which have been historically rarified to only the upper echelons of society.
Lab-grown diamonds are arguably the biggest disruptor the jewelry world has ever experienced.
Are natural diamonds better?
Different diamonds tell different stories and natural diamonds tell an alluring tale… a tale as old as time. Formed deep within the earth in volcanic pipelines called Kimberlites, diamonds are pushed close to the surface where they are commercially mined. These Kimberlites provide the perfect conditions of pressure and heat which transforms carbon into the hardest stone contribute to their rarity. Natural inclusions make each one unique.
Natural diamonds, being less plentiful than lab-grown diamonds, are more costly for good reason. The mining process is inherently expensive.
How much will it cost?
Katura 1999 offers streamlined services and the best pricing possible because we do not bear the costs of a traditional “brick & mortar” store. Your money is wisely invested in design and your chosen materials.
Cost factors include metal choices (gold or platinum), complexity of design, and the diamonds that best tell your story. Once your diamonds are selected, we can provide you with an estimate for your project. Engagement rings typically range from $2,000 - $40,000.
Our clients are design driven and value the personal experience of seeing their dreams come to life.
What are diamond reports and do I need one?

Never buy a di report. Only buy the diamond.
