Her very first diamond studs. The diminutive size appropriate at 16 just doesn't work for a mature woman. Mature defined as 30 and up.

So rather than wistfully visit them a couple times of year where they resided in a beautiful box, we paired them with some raw diamonds, affectionately known around here as "raw sugar."

A Technical Note: Platinum Bezels

We chose platinum for the bezels. Platinum, the perfectly neutral white of this precious metal, works magic with diamonds. It makes a good diamond look great, and an average stone look oh so good. Here, we went from good to great.

Raw Diamonds

Raw diamonds look like nothing else. They sparkle in a subdued way. They have secrets. They know they can be cut to reveal an entirely different aspect of their character. And they provide the perfect counterpoint to the perfect little solitaires.

Here, the raw diamond is mounted in a handmade 18KY prongs which warms up these tiny, sculptural compositions.

A Monument to Achievement

Although small in scale, they are also monuments to the woman who commissioned these. A gift to herself after completing a very rigorous advanced degree, the gold in the mountings was derived from scrapping other pieces from her past that no longer resonated with who she is now. Jewelry gifts that kept on giving.

So what goes around, sometime comes around in the most beautiful ways.
